What We Do...
FMCA is incorporated in the State of Florida as a corporation not for profit. The
officers of FMCA consist of a President, President-Elect, Vice President, Immediate
Past-President, and Executive Director. Regional Representatives are elected from
each of four geographic regions of the State: northwest, northeast, southwest, and
southeast. There also is a Member-at-Large elected from the general membership.
The Board of Directors, consisting of the five officers and the five representatives,
manages the affairs of FMCA and reports to the membership at all meetings.
FMCA holds an Annual Meeting each fall for the presentation of papers and discussion
of mosquito abatement and related subjects. The meeting normally lasts three days
and is highlighted by invitational papers given by world recognized authorities
on a variety of subjects. Space is available for commercial companies to exhibit
the latest technological materials and products.
The Aerial Short Courses (FlyIn) is held in mid-January each year for exchanging
information on aerial mosquito control application strategies, equipment and legislation
challenges. Topics at the two and half day conference cover meteorological principles,
adult and larval pesticide operational experiences, formulations and an aerial demostration
of equipment. CEUS are available.
The Dodd Plenary Short Courses are held for five days during the winter, usually
at the end of January or beginning of February. The courses, taught by recognized
experts, cover such topics as mosquito identification and chemical and biological
control techniques. They are designed to educate all mosquito control personnel
in the various aspects of mosquito control. The Dodd Plenary Short Courses also
provide certification training CEUs in many categories.
Tallahassee Days is an opportunity for FMCA members to learn more about the Florida
legislative process and to meet with legislators, educate them about mosquito control
issues and to encourage them to support mosquito control funding. These State-appropriated
funds are crucial in funding the Mosquito Control Section of the Florida Dept. of
Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Bureau of Entomology and Pest Control,
mosquito control research and supports local mosquito control programs.
Buzz Words is the official newsletter of the FMCA and it is sent to all members
on a quarterly basis. Buzz Words keeps members up-to-date on mosquito control issues
and activities of the association.
Wing Beats is a quarterly magazine that is sent to all members.
Technical Bulletins are published on an as-needed basis.
